At the scene of an accident

There are loads of people either dead, unconsious, bleeding, fractured a part of their body, shocked or they are fine.

The first person I would check would be the dead person to check they are dead  otherwise I could try and save them.

The second person I would check would be the bleeding casualty otherwise if left for long they could lose blood and die, I would treat the person quickly.

The third person i’d go to would be the unconcious casualty as if they are not breathing I would perform CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Respiration) and if they were unconcious and breathing I would put them in the recovery possition.

The fourth person i’d go and help would be the person with a fracture to see how much damage there is if it were a minor fracture I would bandage it up.

The fifth person i’d go to is the shocked person to calm them down and help them take deep breaths.

The last person I would check would be the person who is fine so I could ask them to help me with the other casualties.

DR ABC

D-Danger- You must look around the scene of the accident to check for any dangers e.g. broken glass or fire so you and any others can avoid being harmed.

R-Response- Always check the casualty is breathing, ask them several questions and shake them, but give them a while to respond, the reason in which you should do this is to make sure they are not asleep or unconcious.

A-Airway- Check that the airway is not blocked if it is take out what is blocking it to prevent the casualty from choking.

B-Breathing- Place your ear against the casualties mouth to listen for breathing, if the casualty is not breathing perform CPR within 3 minutes.

C-Circulation- Check the pulse from either the wrist, neck, heart or groin do not use your thumb as there is a pulse there. The casualty may have a blood clot that has stopped the flow of blood if the heart is not working.

This poster is a floor plan of a nursery, I have placed some furniture and the basics inside it. I then placed red x’s on the hazards that I thought were dangerous. There were many precortions which I thought should be put in place so I made a key to show which symbols liknked with which explaination for example, the orange rectangle with diagonal lines symbolises non-slip surfaces, they are placed by the coat hooks so if wet coats are hung up and they drip the floor not become slippery and another symbol is the yellow triangle which means railings, that is why they are by the stairs so the children will not fall.

Hero schoolgirl saves three-year-old’s life days after first aid lesson

A schoolgirl saved her three year old cousin’s life just three days after learning how to perform first aid.

Ashleigh Robson, 14, leapt into action after noticing little Summer Horton had stopped breathing and was slumped in her car seat.

Without a second thought she began using life-saving techniques she was taught just days earlier to help Summer regain consciousness.

Yesterday, as the toddler continued to recover at home, Ashleigh spoke of the moment she realised that her cousin urgently required the kiss of life.

She said her mother, Tina, a 41-year-old teaching assistant, had just picked her up from a dance lesson when she noticed something was wrong with Summer.

“She was in the back seat on her baby chair but was slumped forward,” she said. “Her eyes were open and she wasn’t moving.

“I said ‘hello’ to her and she just stared at me and didn’t respond at all. I said to my mum ‘there’s something wrong’ and we picked her up out of the back of the car. She was barely breathing.”

After checking her airways to make sure she wasn’t chocking on anything Ashleigh placed her in the recovery position but soon realised she would have to recall her training in a bid to save her life.

Should all primary schools teach first aid lessons?

I think all children should be taught first aid as it a necessary precortion in every day life. First aid charity St John Ambulance quote “You can never be too young to learn such life-savigng skills”.

Who should learn first aid?

I think eveyone shoud learn first aid as it is useful for incase of an emergency.

What skills should be learnt?

The basic skills should be learnt such as CPR, bandaging and also the recovery possition.

My first aid log book

This log book will be where I place all my evidence for the work in which I have done. So it will be a easy way to check my progress.
